Making the Most of your Paving at your Home

If you are having the driveway of your home paved there are a number of things you can do to make the most out of the design includng:

• Wider and Longer Driveway: If space will allow consider having a wider and/or longer driveway ideal for when you have guests or to accommodate two cars. It is also great for storing boats, recreational vehicles and just having a finished area on your property that will mean less work and maintenance. A longer driveway also makes a property appear grander. Depending on the configuration of your property you can also consider having two points of entry such as homes on a corner or properties that span between two roadways.

• Garage Design: Consider the design of your garage or car port and see if this can be used as a guide for the design of your driveway. You want to use it as the final landing spot of course, but you also want to take some design cues for color, width and size and any other tips that will make your home look more attractive. You can also look at adding design details such as concrete or stone planters running along the sides of the driveway, tree lined edges or pretty hedges to complement the look of your garage.

• Circular Drive: Look at your property and see if you can add a circular drive that comes up to the front of your home. This is great for picking up people at the door, loading the car for trips or taking in the groceries. It is also ideal for guest parking. You can still have the driveway leading to the garage or car port but the circle will add a touch of elegance to your property and enhance the look of your landscaping with the addition of a lovely tree, fountain and other design details.

• Various Configurations: Speak with your contractor and see if there is a better configuration that will give you more space to turn around in your driveway. T’s, L’s and J’s are some of the potential designs you can consider as they allow you extra parking for guests as well as  a section to turn around to get a better view of traffic as opposed to pulling out backwards onto a busy street.

All of these ideas can provide you with a more attractive and more functional driveway with more space for parking, a safer way to enter and leave your property and stunning design details to improve the look of your property.
